The common Moringa oleifera is sometimes referred to as the "Miracle Tree", and a closer examination reveals that the term may not be far from the truth. The rare African Moringa (Moringa stenopetela) is a vigorous, superior specie of the highest potential, with numerous advantages (see below). LBCAS is thus focused on its propagation, testing, and dissemination.
Every part of this widely adapted and fast growing tree can be utilized, including leaves, shoots, flowers, pods, bark, and roots, either as a vegetable or for medicinal or other purposes. The tree has no major pests or diseases in both dry and humid climates.
Regarded as the most nutritious vegetable in the world, with wet weight leaf protein approaching 8% (more than beans and rice), and dried leaf powder at 25-30% protein, with balanced amino acids, higher than steak. Higher in calcium than milk, plus many other minerals and vitamins. The best choice for producing leaf protein concentrate.

African Moringa (Moringa stenopetela) has many advantages compared to common Moringa oleifera in the following ways:
1. Improved bushy and dense growth habit with faster establishment.
2. Significantly larger edible leaves and shoots.
3. Higher vigor with faster rate of growth and ten day regeneration after harvest.
4. Increased leaf, shoot, and biomass production on a long lived perennial tree. Common Moringa is a short lived tree, declining within five years.
5. Higher cold tolerance.

Moringa is highly suited for commercial production, and is already well known in the natural product marketplace. This includes several product categories with strong name recognition such as teas, protein powders, capsules, ingredients, and others. Please inquire regarding development of novel products with immediate large scale potential, relating to high nutritional and protein content, plus medicinal activities.
LBCAS assists with all aspects of African and improved common Moringa production, including providing plant material, sustainable and organic cultivation methods, plus processing and finished product development. Commercial quantities of Moringa plant material available with contract propagation.

Moringa is amazingly widely adapted, literally from desert to rain forest, from highly acidic soils to highly alkaline. It is pan tropical and is also suitable for the sub tropics to USDA Zone 9. Heat resistant up to 125 degrees in desert full sun. It is an extremely fast growing tree, which can produce 15 feet of growth in one season, and is excellent in mixed cropping and multi level agroforestry systems.
May be used to shade under-story crops. High potential for carbon sequestration and climate change mitigation. The tree is so fast growing and productive, it can also be used for production of biomass for mulch, compost, and fertilizer for on-site use.
In the hedgerow system for leaf and shoot production, six to ten coppiced harvests per year are possible, producing a very high weight of green material per acre. Or continuous production by harvest of the shoots as they appear after cutting. Efficient utilization of water and nutrients is made possible due to high mychorrizal dependence, and the tree is efficient for deep nutrient cycling. Great candidate for low input sustainable and regenerative agriculture systems from deserts to the wet tropics. Self mulching.

The Moringa tree produces a large number of seed filled pods (photo above), which are very nutritious. The pods are sometimes called drum sticks, giving rise to the common name, "Drum Stick Tree". The roots are used like hose radish, hence another common name, "Horse Radish Tree". Research indicates that Moringa is effective for prevention and possible treatment of Covid.
The seeds are useful in water purification for clarification of cloudy water and precipitation of harmful materials. They also contain other useful medicinal active compounds. The bark and other plant parts have medicinal activities as well, and tea is made from the leaves.
